It is a commonly accepted fact that those who are involved in a weight loss community are more likely to lose pounds and keep them off than those who go at it alone. Thousands of people go to village halls, schools and gyms across the country to take part in communities like Weight Watchers or Slimming World and they find the comradeship extremely beneficial. Why might this be?
People who are overweight tend to have low self-esteem and losing weight for their own benefit may not be enough of a motivation. Instead, telling others of your intention to slim down is seen as a better motivation as people with low self-esteem are likely to not want to let others down. It is not among one of the best motives to lose weight, being concerned about heart disease, diabetes etc. is far better but ultimately, the results of weight loss will far outweigh the original motives as self-esteem develops with confidence gained from dropping pounds.
You can set up a Wordpress, LiveJournal, Vox or Blogger account for your musings, these are all templates and do not require any website building know how. From there, you share your thoughts, feelings, food diary and exercise habits - whatever you want really, with your friends, family, colleagues and potentially the world! Your weight loss blog can be as detailed as you like, including your thoughts, feelings or toilet habits should you so wish... or only contain a food and exercise diary - it's entirely up to you.
The main purpose of your weight loss blog is to encourage your loved ones to have a stake in your success by publicly encouraging you with comments on your pictures and/or posts. You can even reach out to the internet slimming community and read the weight loss stories of other people out there such as South Beach Steve or Total Chunk and comment on their blog posts. Most of the time, if you comment on fellow dieter's blogs, people will begin to flock to your diet blog and take an interest in your progress. Everybody is different and the techniques that you use may not work for me or vice versa. That is why it is good to surround yourself with a mix of people who are only too happy to share their diet and exercise tips.
